Truthbase Theatricals
All adult employees and volunteers are required to read and acknowledge these policies each season.
Truthbase Theatricals is committed to creating an environment that is free of discrimination and harassment based on race, gender, religion, age, national origin, disability, genetic characteristics, or any other classification protected by law. Unlawful harassment or discrimination against anyone will not be tolerated. This policy covers Truthbase Theatricals Volunteers and all of its Employees, and includes, without limitation, its Teachers, Assistants, Artistic and Production Team Members, Officers, Directors, Parent Volunteers and any others involved in Truthbase Theatricals activities. Those found to be in violation of this policy will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment at Truthbase Theatricals and/or termination of any participation in Truthbase Theatricals activities.
No one involved in Truthbase Theatricals is exempt from this policy.
Discrimination is the adverse treatment of any person based on the protected class or category of persons to which he or she belongs, rather than on the basis of his or her individual merit.
Harassment is unwelcome verbal or physical conduct directed toward, or differential treatment of, a person because of his or her membership in any protected group or on any other prohibited basis. Discrimination and Harassment are prohibited and will not be tolerated. Examples of conduct which may be discrimination or harassment, and which, therefore, are prohibited, include:
Anyone who believes he or she is being discriminated against or being harassed should immediately report the conduct to Truthbase Theatricals Leadership. All such reports will be discretely, promptly and thoroughly investigated. Prompt remedial action will be taken should investigation reveal that discrimination or harassment has taken place.
Complaints made in good faith will not result in any adverse action against any employee, volunteer, or student. However, reporting knowingly false claims is a serious offense and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Persons who believe they have been the victim of discrimination or harassment may also complain to the NY State Division of Human Rights at dhr.ny.gov or by calling 1-888-392-3644. Alternatively, contact the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission at 1-800-669-4000 or write to 33 Whitehall Street, 5th Floor, NY, NY 10004.
Harm to a child caused by an adult, or older child, which is not accidental (whether intentional or unintentional) is child abuse. It may take the form of physical abuse, emotional abuse, or sexual abuse. Further, depriving a child of the basics necessary to sustain health and hygiene is neglect.
Employees and Adult Volunteers of Truthbase Theatricals should be aware of the health of each child and alert for signs of possible abuse. Signs of abuse may include bumps, cuts, bruises, burns, etc. which are abnormal, or unexplained and extended changes in behavior.
Signs of child abuse are often unclear, and may signify something in the experience of the child other than abuse. Consider approaching the parent or child with non-threatening and non-accusatory questions before making a decision as to what action to take.
Section 413 of the New York Social Services Law requires a mandated reporter to report when they have reasonable cause to suspect that a child is an abused or maltreated child. If you reasonably suspect physical or mental child abuse or neglect, you must report your suspicions to the NY State Child Protective Services Hotline at 1-800-342-3720. You must also report your suspicions in writing promptly to the Truthbase Theatricals Executive Director.
Section 420 of the New York Social Services Law states that any person required to report a case of suspected child abuse who willfully fails to do so shall be guilty of a class A misdemeanor and may be civilly liable for damages.
In addition to these mandatory reporting obligations, Employees and Volunteers working with children are required to adhere to the following guidelines:
The Policy of Professional Conduct has been developed to delineate the conduct and behavior required of all Truthbase Theatricals Employees and Volunteers. Compliance with these requirements is mandatory and any violation thereof is grounds for termination of employment or participation.
